The Internet has also opened up the world to all of us and there are now many travel companies specializing in travel to Russia. Try visiting Google and typing in 'travel to russia' and you will be presented with many links to travel agents, visa specialists, hotel listings and so on.
Whichever way you decide to travel to Russia there are a number of things you need to know. Firstly you can't at the time of writing enter Russia, Ukraine or Belarus without a visa. And before you can get a visa you need what is called an invitation from someone or proof of hotel booking. Don't worry it's not as complicated as it sounds. All travel companies will prepare your visa application and will include the relevant hotel voucher needed for your visa application. Our personal tour service will include the invitation as part of your booking. If you are travelling independently and know someone in Russia they can apply for an invitation for you. This takes about 2 months to arrange and requires them to visit the local militia department called OVIR to apply for your invitation. I don't recommend this method. Try one of the specialist companies. It will cost a little more but will be a lot quicker and far easier. You can apply for business visa's too. You don't have to be on a business trip either!
